Scholarships

The chapter encourages the study of fire protection engineering by presenting scholarships to students studying this field at an accredited university. Contact Concepcion Sanchez on eligibility requirements and submittal of applications.

Chicago Chapter SFPE Scholarship award criteria:

  1. Chicago Metro area applicants will be given preference, applicants with ties to the Chicago Chapter of SFPE will also be considered.

  2. The applicant should be enrolled as a full-time student.

  3. Applicants enrolled in accredited engineering/engineering technology curriculum will be given preference.

  4. The ratio of out-pocket versus financial awards will be considered in awarding the scholarship. Both the past years and anticipated upcoming years financial benefits will be considered. A letter from Bursars/financial aid office is required, see application.

  5. Grades on a 4.0 scale will be considered in the awarding of the scholarships. The applicant must maintain good academic standing in order to receive the scholarship. A copy of the previous semester’s transcript is required from the student.

  6. A letter from the College Dean or Fire Protection Program Chairperson indicating the applicant’s good standing and re-enrollment for the next semester will be required. A maximum of three scholarships will be given. The Chapter will sponsor a maximum of $3000 per semester for each scholarship. Additional money from corporate sponsorship may also be available.

In addition to the above requirements, each of the three scholarships are defined below with additional qualifying guidelines:

Chicago Metro Scholarship
  • Only those applicants from the Chicago Metro area or those with ties to the Chicago Chapter of SFPE are eligible.
  • Only undergraduate students are eligible.
  • Students studying fire protection engineering will be given preference.
Academic Scholarship
  • This scholarship is automatically renewed for a second consecutive semester if the applicant maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants with a high GPA will be given preference.
  • Undergraduate students will be given preference.
SFPE Scholarship
  • Students studying fire protection engineering will be given preference.
  • Graduate students are eligible.
