About the Chicago Chapter of SFPE
The Chicago Chapter of SFPE was founded on May 19, 1953. Our mission is to define, develop, and advance the use of engineering best practices; expand the scientific and technical knowledge base; and educate the global fire safety community, in order to reduce fire risk. Our members span the entire fire protection industry including code consulting, system design, manufacturing, research and testing, insurance, and the fire service. The four main objectives of our Chapter are to:
- Maintain a high professional standing among our members.
- Provide education opportunities for members and others with interest in fire protection engineering to advance their technical and professional competence.
- Support the ethical and competent practice of fire protection engineering.
- Provide a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate students with interest in a career in fire protection engineering.
We regularly host in-person and virtual meetings to feature technical presentations and networking opportunities. We partner with the Illinois Fire Prevention Association to host an annual product show and education opportunity. We also partner with local fire protection companies to host an annual educational seminar. Please check out our events page to see what’s coming up!
